Thank heaven you don't have to be a Baron any more to be able to dine at the beautiful Hazlewood Castle, home to an award-winning hotel and the Restaurant 1086. The castle itself was mentioned in the Domesday Book(hence the 1086) and is set like a jewel in stunning parkland. While the hotel has been sympathetically restored, the charming, luxurious restaurant is modern in its sleek simplicity. This is a perfect place to bring your love to pop the question or to celebrate the answer! Chef Neal Dove, anative Yorkshireman and a magician in the kitchen, has created a superb Euro/British menu. Try starter of thyme and pepercorn marinated beef fillet sliced paperthin and served with rocket leaves and maple dressing, main course of pan-fried breast of duck on a bed of beetroot-horseradish risotto, spring onions deep-fried in spicy batter and orange dressing. Puds includeprune and Armagnac parfait on Shrewsbury biscuit with Earl Grey syrup. The well-chosen wine list is priced for real people and not expense accounts. A very special place.
