Carnaby’s is one of three dining ‘areas’ at the five star Courthouse Hotel Kempinski on Great Marlborough Street. Daring modern Medieval design draws inspiration from the building’s previous incarnation as the country’s second largest magistrate’s court and temporary abode to the likes of Napolean III, John Lennon and Sir Mick Jagger. Tall windows let in lots of light and allow clear views of colourful Carnaby Street. Not that it’s drab inside, where the Mediterranean look of the bold marigold walls and burgundy seating is complemented by an European menu. Typically delicious dishes include roast chicken forestiere - a roast breast of Poulet Noir garnished with braised fondant potato flavoured with thyme, pickled baby onion, Lancaster back bacon and small button mushroom, and served with roasting juice.

Carnaby’s seats a maximum of 50 guests; six is the largest group that can dine at a single table. The three original prison cells - now private booths complete with bunk bed and ice bucket - that make-up part of the clubby, monochrome in-house bar pay homage to the building’s former life and ensure that your guests won’t forget your pre/post-dinner drinks in a hurry. The hotel has seven meeting rooms, catering for a maximum of 130 people theatre style. Release, the extravagant private screening room is the largest of its kind in London, seating up to a hundred. Facilities include a TV and video, an ISDN line, PA system and projection screen. All non-smoking. Disabled facilities available.
