We're rather fond, us Brits, of Indian food, aren't we? So here's a thing. One night soon, hide your local takeaway menu at the back of the drawer, put on your glad rags and immerse yourself in the opulent occasion that is Mint Leaf. This large beautifully designed contemporary low-lit restaurant is divided into a series of sultry, intimate areas, each rich with dark wood, leather, stone, candles and flowers. If not filled with this smorgasbord of sophistication, move your attention to the modern Indian fusion food, which is more accessible than it may sound. (Good enough to please spoilt celebrity palettes) starters include Karare Sabz - asparagus with crispy spinach leaves and onion rings, mains a Jhinga Kalimirch - translated as jumbo prawns in roasted peppercorn and coriander seed masala, and how about this for a fine sounding dessert - Banana Ta Tin, caramelized banana served with coconut rice. Makes a swanky change from cold onion bhajis and runny korma washed down with a can of coke now doesn't it?

So good at creating a sense of occasion and spectacle, Mint Leaf is fast becoming a hot spot for talked-about private and corporate parties. The launch party of 'Sexual Perversity in Chicago' starring Hollywood honies Mathew Perry and Minnie Driver held here was a hit. There's a smart 60-cover function/dining room, complete with ISDN line, PA system and projection screen. But the piece de la resistance is the grand bar - all 20 metres and hundreds of irresistibly-named cocktails of it. If you can't decide which to pick (and we wouldn't blame you), ask the award-winning head barman. Live music can be arranged for you, or bring your own entertainment. Whatever you do, you'll have a fantastic time.
